When it comes to the newer model television sets being produced, there are different levels of quality and price. Sometimes, one can find a set that is very high quality, yet comes with a bargain price. The Toshiba 32AV615DB is such a set.
As one would expect from looking at the model number, the 32AV615DB has a 32 inch diagonal screen. This particular model has a 3 pin plug for use in the United Kingdom. It is in all other respects identical to the standard 32AV615.
The first complaint that many would voice about this television set is that it is not 1080p compatible. This means that it does not provide the absolute sharpest in HD pictures. Yet, the resolution is over 720p, making this set meet the standards for an HD ready set. Truthfully, nobody but an avid gamer or a technician would ever notice the difference in picture quality.
The 32AV615DB also does not support 24fps Blu ray playback. This would make it possible to view HD Blu Ray movies at 24 frames per second, the same speed at which they were originally filmed. As with most television sets, this model provides for viewing at 50fps. Again, the difference is very minor and one that only technicians or extremely avid movie goers would notice.
The final “drawback” to the 32AV615DB is the fact that it has a 50 hz processor instead of a 100 hz processor. This means that the picture is refreshed 50 times per second instead of 100. Still, we are talking about speeds that are far too fast for the human eye to notice under regular watching conditions. Gamers may notice a bit of blurring when playing certain higher end games with a great deal of motion, but for regular television viewing, this processor speed is fine.
There have been some complaints about picture quality “out of the box”. While it is true that most LCD televisions produce poorer than nominal picture out of the box, most, including this model, can be set using the menu to sharpen the picture and adjust colours to produce the optimum picture output and truest colour reproduction.
The 32AV615DB has input connections one would expect to see on the latest generation of television sets. It has a PC in port so that it could be used as a computer monitor, 3 HDMI ports, 2 RGB SCART in plugs, 2 SCART in plugs, an S video in port, and a composite (RCA) input port. Also, it has a feature unique to the Toshiba sets of this year, a hard disconnect switch on the left hand side that cuts the power consumption to nearly nil when not in use for an extended period as opposed to approximately 6 watts in normal standby mode.
While the Toshiba 32AV615DB may not be a top of the line model in HD sets, at a price of less than 400 GBP, it is a fine set for those seeking a second set for their home or simply seeking an inexpensive set for regular television viewing.
